“Speech Therapy that sees the whole picture”
Our Services :
Voice:
Changes in your voice/communication can have a considerable impact on your confidence, social life, and professional opportunities. I offer evidence-based therapy that is individualized for each person. I pride myself on taking a holistic approach to therapy, creating a “portrait” of each individual that allows me to treat not just the symptoms but how they affect the whole individual and their interaction with the world.
Voice Disorders: Support for vocal fatigue, hoarseness, loss of range/volume, vocal strain, and other symptoms of a voice disorder. We will work to identify the cause of symptoms and how to promote vocal wellness and efficiency.
Professional Voice Users: Tailored treatment for vocal athletes like teachers, singers, actors, coaches, public speakers, to prevent injury, improve vocal efficiency, and improve stamina.
Pre/Post Surgery: Learn techniques to strengthen and protect the voice before/after procedures. Research shows that patients who receive pre-surgical voice therapy have improved post-surgical outcomes.
Vocal Wellness and Prevention: Techniques for maintaining a strong, healthy voice while preventing strain and injury.
Speech and Language:
Improve communication skills following stroke, brain injury, neurological conditions, or other causes of communication deficits. Improve clarity and articulation for everyday speech.
Cognition:
We are constantly confronted with opportunities for problem-solving in everyday life. Individualized treatment will target areas of Attention, Memory, Problem Solving, Executive Functioning, and Social Cognition. Goals of treatment are intended to be functional for the individual to support improved engagement in daily activities whether it is getting a calendar in order, managing medications, following a recipe, or interacting socially.
About:
Andy Doherty, MS, CCC-SLP, is a caring and holistic speech-language pathologist dedicated to helping individuals find their strongest, most authentic voice. He earned his Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from New York University and is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
Before becoming a speech-language pathologist, Andy spent over a decade as a touring musician. Night after night on stage, he gained firsthand experience with the physical and emotional demands placed on the voice, along with the resilience required to sustain a healthy instrument while navigating a busy performance lifestyle. This unique perspective deeply informs his therapeutic approach, allowing him to connect with clients who rely on their voices for work, artistry, and daily communication.
Clinically, Andy has served patients across the continuum of care, including both inpatient and outpatient settings at York Hospital in York, Maine. His medical background includes work with voice disorders, swallowing challenges, cognitive-communication needs, and speech-language rehabilitation for adults recovering from illness, injury, or surgery. Andy is also certified in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT LOUD), an evidence-based program designed to improve vocal quality, clarity, and confidence for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions.
Drawing from both his medical training and artistic background, Andy provides therapy that is compassionate, individualized, and rooted in a whole-person perspective. Whether guiding someone through recovery, preparing them for surgery, or supporting professional voice users, his goal is to help each client thrive in communication and in life
